Adelaide is city of over one million people located on St Vincent's Gulf. Adelaide is a progressive city and this is reflected in the annual Adelaide Festival which brings performers together from many parts of the world.
The founder of Adelaide, Colonel William Light, set a high standard for the colonial city which has many historic buildings and an inordinate number of churches ... hence the appellation "city of churches". The city has many wonderful restaurants and beautiful beaches. Getting around Adelaide is challenging as the city lacks major freeways forcing all traffic coming in and leaving the city to use inadequate surburban roads.
Adelaide is a sports loving city, particularly cricket with the Adelaide Oval being considered one of the finest cricket grounds in Australia.
