Edith Falls (Leliyn) Campground - Nitmiluk National Park NT
The Edith Falls (Leliyn) Campground is located at Jatbula Road in the Nitmiluk National Park. Pleasant campgrounds, walking tracks and upper, middle and lower falls. Picturesque waterfalls and great swimming are the well known features of this section of the Nitmiluk National Park. While Nitmiluk's landscape changes from lush green in the wet season (November - April), to sparse and brown late in the dry season, there is always refreshing water to enjoy at Leilyn (Edith falls).
Access to Leilyn (Edith falls ) can be reached by following the Stuart highway north from Katherine for 40 km then following a sealed road for another 20 km.
There are three main habitats (Flora and Fauna) at Leliyn: the sandstone escarpment, riverine corridor and open eucalypt woodland. Each habitat is within a short walking distance of the carpark. Several species of interest are found in this part of Nitmiluk, Gouldian Finch and Hooded Parrot, and the shy Black Wallaroo.
Walking - with well maintained walking tracks, there are two walks at Leilyn. Leliyn Trail and Sweetwater Pool:
Leliyn Trail - a 2.6 km, 2 hour circuit that ascends a hill then goes down to cross the upper pool above the falls. It then climbs up the other side of the falls before descending to the level of the main pool where there is a river crossing. Views of the waterfalls and Edith River from two lookouts, on one each side of the river, and swimming are the feature of this walk.
Sweetwater Pool - an 8.6km return walk to a fantastic swimming spot. This can be done as a day or overnight walk. There are toilets at the Sweetwater Pool camping area.
Picnic and camping facilities are provided at the Falls. Limited gas barbecues, tables and an ablution block with toilet and shower facilities are provided for your use. There is a kiosk where you can obtain your permit (fee) for camping at Sweetwater, purchase food and drinks.

Great camp area. Get there early as people are lined up from around 9 am, you can't enter until 10 am. Level camp area, nice grassy spots, fresh water taps and good amenities. The office staff are great and there's a cafe and shop also. No mobile reception at the park but further up the hill on the walk to the swimming hole we saw people talking on their phones. No generators allowed. A must do is the walk up to the upper falls and you can also swim at the lower falls which is a short walk from the camp area.
