We went through Hell's Gate two years ago (2007) and were surprised to see that the roadhouse had closed down some months earlier. Apparently the local Aboriginal community had banned alcohol the previous year, making the roadhouse business unviable.
Only emergency fuel and limited camping was available, with cash up-front and no receipt.
Word has it that the roadhouse is still closed, so make sure you've got enough fuel and essentials to safely reach the next supply areas.
Have posted a few images of the site, including road-signs showing various distances to locations and services.

Hells gate was open when I drove past 2 days ago. Did not stop for fuel but there were quite a few campers out the back and a lot of signs advertising that they were open for trading.
