Desert Oaks Rest Area - Ghan NT
Desert Oaks Rest Area is situated on the Stuart Hghway at Ghan in the Northern Territory. Ghan is 1,752 km south of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The trip takes approximately 20 hours and 7 minutes, although slower if you are towing a heavy van or large rig. Watch out for kangaroos and emus on the road. This area is very popular so it can get crowded at times. You can be guaranteed plenty of space at the height of summer. The amenities are very good with hot showers available. Enjoy the sound of the dingos howling at night.

We stayed here in early June 2016. The Rest area is all sandy but solid and very extensive. There were about 50 vans parked here overnight. Has a shelter/tables etc and a two stand flush type eco toilet that was in good condition. Area appears to be well maintained and bins were not overflowing. We stayed there again on the return journey and this time there was plenty of room with only about 10 vans overnight. Site was tidy once again and still well maintained. It is just off the main Stuart highway but is quiet overnight. A very good Rest area in all.
