Ribas Underground Camping and Caravan Park - Coober Pedy SA
The
Ribas Underground Camping and Caravan Park is located at 1 KM. down William Creek Road off the Stuart Hwy Coober Pedy. Underground camping offers the camper to pitch their tent or roll out the swag without weather problems. During the summer it is nice and cool underground and leaves the flies outside, in the winter it is warm - with around 21degrees all through the year. There are above ground powered sites. Resident Managers are on site. Bookings can be made by
telephoning the park and please tell the park that you have seen their information on Caravan Park Photos. This page was created on the 4 May 2010.

A slight correction to the above comments is that Riba's is located on William Creek Road, not the Oodnadatta Road as I previously mentioned.
I thought it was also worth adding that there is no dump point here at Riba's but there is one available in Coober Pedy, so you can empty your waste while you refuel and fill your water tanks after your stay.
Also worth mentioning is that 3G mobile broadband works excellently all around Coober Pedy, including here at Riba's with nearly full service.

We are just finishing up a 2 night stay here at Riba's Underground Camping and Caravan Park in Coober Pedy. The park is situated about 3KM's south of the Coober Pedy township on the Oodnadatta Road. Unless you want to be right in the middle of town it is no real inconvenience. Riba's is quite small and personal and if your looking for something a little different then you've found the place! If you are looking for resort style accomodation with a pool, water and sullage to each site, then look elsewhere. However Riba's does have sheltered powered sites which provide welcome relief from the hot sun. The park is all gravel which is well maintained. You will need your own water supply for the duration of your stay and there are water dispensers at the outskirts of town which you can use to fill up before you check in. There is a small amenities and laundry block which is kept very clean and showers are free (other parks in Coober Pedy charge for showers). There is also a screened camp kitchen area which is great for escaping the flies when cooking and eating. The underground camping and accomodation is unique and is a must see. You can pitch a tent but you can't take your caravan down there. The underground areas are cool, quiet and surprisingly dust free. The real highlight of our stay was Rick's on-site opal mine tour. The 90 minute tour was incredibly informative and personal with ample opportunity to ask questions. We think it was as good, if not better, than anything we saw in Coober Pedy during our stay. Rick has spent 20 years minig for opal so he must know something about it by now! We enjoyed our stay in this unique park and didn't really miss any of the conveniences that might have been on offer at the other parks. We would recommend Riba's to anyone looking for something a little different. We also recommend while you are in Coober Pedy that you visit the Old Timer's Mine, the numerous underground churches and the Desert Cave Hotel which are all unique and interesting places. Just out of town on a well maintained grave road The Breakaways are spectacular and not to be missed!
