Burtons Well Campground - Bunya Mountains National Park QLD

Steep road into mountains is possibly not suitable for caravans. Free firewood is supplied at Burtons Well, for use in several woodfired barbecues and 'donkey boiler,' which allows you to boil hot water for showers. Note: there is a sealed, narrow road that goes through the Bunya Mountains called Bunya Mountains Road, which is not shown on map.
$5.15 per person, family rate available (see Department of Environment and Resource Management website for current prices). Booking is required, however there is a National Park office at Dandabah which allows you to book over the counter. Phone or net booking is required Bunya Mountains National Park is located 55km west of Nanango via Maidenwell or 55km north from Dalby via Kaimkillenbun. Aboriginal people once gathered in the mountains every three years to celebrate and feast on the large crops of bunya nuts. Protected within the mountains is the world's largest stand of bunya pines, their distinctive dome shaped crown can be seen rising above the surrounding rainforest. Rangers do request that visitors not feed birds and wildlife in the park.
A Camping permit is required. Located on Bunya Avenue signposted off Bunya Mountains Road, 60klm north of Dalby and 30klm west of Maidenwell. Bring drinking water. Gas/ fuel stove only.

Bookings are recommended up to 6 months in advance for peak periods, long weekends, public and school holidays, Easter and Christmas.
Camping fees from $4.50 per person each night. Campground features: A large, well-grassed open area surrounded by forest. There are a number of ancient grasstrees scattered through the camping area.
Location: About 8.5 km north-west of the QPWS information centre.
Access: The campground can be reached by conventional vehicle. It is not accessible for trailers, caravans or buses. Although the campground is accessible by car, it is not possible to drive onto the camp sites. Parking is available only a short distance from each camp site.
Number of sites: Open area without separately defined sites for up to 50 people.
Camp sites are suitable for: walk-in camping only; cars must remain in carparks nearby.
Camp site surface: Grass.
Facilities: Water (treat before drinking), toilet (hybrid system), picnic tables, wood barbecues, firewood and cold showers. A donkey boiler is available nearby to heat water for showering—take care when using and follow the operational guidelines provided on site.
Open fires: In fireplaces only, except when fire bans or prohibitions apply. Please use the supplied firewood sparingly and make sure your fire is out before you leave it; extinguish with water, not sand or dirt. Fuel or gas stoves are recommended.
Generators: Not permitted.
Essentials to bring: Rubbish bags (no bins are provided) and insect repellent. Fuel or gas stoves are recommended. Bring buckets to carry warm water from the donkey boiler to the bush shower cubicle provided. Read more about things to know before you go.
