The Stanthorpe Rest Area is in Wallangarra Road Stanthorpe. Located in Queensland's Granite Belt just two and a half hours south west of Brisbane, on the New England Highway route to Sydney, Stanthorpe Shire is conveniently accessible from the population centres of South East Queensland. The town of Stanthorpe was originally established by tin miners in the 1870's. Diversification into fruit and vegetable growing provided the solid foundation for the growth of the town,
Stanthorpe has relaxing Walking Paths in Lions Park along the edge Quart Pot Creek, where you could see the Water Dragon Lizards. The rest area has amenities and picnic facilities. Parking space is somewhat limited so the area is not suitable for large rigs. If you decide to stay overnight then it is entirely at your own risk.
