Indee Station Farmstay - Pt Hedland WA

Pet Friendly

Indee Station Farmstay is on Indee Road Port Hedland.  The farm is full of fascinating relics from bygone days. Vans can be parked anywhere and it is great fun to be there.  On the way to Indee Station you may encounter a lot of heavy machinery being moved to mine sites.

Photos on this page were kindly supplied by our roving reporter Rob Hornsby and Des of Taree.

Rob writes: "Indee Homstead is about 10k in off the Karajini Highway a on a graded Red Sandy track. Entry is not a problem in the Wet or Dry. There are no Powered sites but it is a great location for a night or two. Amenities block has hot showers , toilets both mens and ladies. There is a Camp kitchen which has the basics and is powered. Both buildings are typical transportables as used by the mining Companies in the area , but they are clean and tidy. You are welcome to join the Family for "Happy Hour" in the gardens of the Homestead the owners are elderly and enjoy the company and will spin you great stories etc relating to the Property and the district, you will be impressed with their commentary. A restful stopover if heading out to Karajini or just a slight detour if going South."

I spent 3months working on indee station with Colin these people are some of the kindest caring people I have ever met on my time traveling Australia. I had an amazing time and as always Betty made sure we where well fed would love to visit port hedland again thanks for an amazing time. Jamie and kellie

Ah, yes! It felt like we had arrived home again when we again arrived at Indee station on 25th May 2015. Unfortunately we could only stay 7 weeks this time as we had other commitments to attend to back home on the East coast. The hospitality was the same as always, GREAT! We were lucky enough to be there when the Indee 500 motor cycle enduro was on. This was the 3rd on that had been lucky enough to be there for.
Whilst there we went to Port Hedland and had 2 harbour tours that are provided by the Seafarers. This thoroughly recommended if you have the time to spare. Thank you again Colin

We Stayed for a week in 2010 I think it was and enjoyed it so much I still cannot stop telling people about it.
Loved the Happy hours and hospitality you could not find nicer people.
It was a fantastic experience and the drive to the river and rock art was terrific.
We intend to spend another week there this year, looking forward to it.

My Wife and I lived in Port Hedland and met Colin and Betty many years ago before setting off on a 2 year trip around, in and out, and back again around Australia.
In all our travels and farm stays we have never met a more warm, friendly and genuine couple than Collin and Betty.
I strongly recommend a stay at "Indee Station"

What a fabulous stay! Great value for money, wonderful hosts. great happy hour. Don't worry about the drive in on the dirt road, it is well cared for so no worries for any vehicle. Clean toilets, washing machines, camp kitchen. Don't forget to donate to the Royal Flying Doctors when you wash. We loved our stay here. Meg and Brian Davies.

Yes we had a great time at Indee Station way back in 2003 those tea breaks in the kitchen with the family was great climbing the rocks and seeing those paintings from the first people of Australia was one of the high lights, that mouse we spent a full day before we saw the sign and its home, Indee bought a few of my book "What Next You Bastard" one they were putting in there library so all could read, and of course the Desert Pea spent hours taking photo's of them, Thank You.

    Stayed here in Sept 2014
  8. Margaret Wright  of  Berwick Sat August 31, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Great to see that Indee Station has upgraded their amenities. We stayed there in June 2010 and it was a disappointment. I see from the photo's that new amenities blocks have been added. All there was in 2010 was two old portable blocks, one for the females, one for males. The males was totally unusable and so we were asked to "share". I see myself as an honest commenter and my previous comment was as it was. There was no way that I could recommend others to stay. Now that the farm has upgraded it's amenities it deserves it's great report.

Well that is great to see.... Margaret Wright, of Berwick's comments have been removed. Perhaps she realised that she had not stayed at Indee after all. What a shame you can't satisfy all people.
  10. GlGlenis Austin  of  Munster WA Sat June 22, 2013 at 5:45 PM

What a shame we cannot remove Margaret Wright of Berwick's comments. We have no record of her ever staying at Indee. We keep a visitor's book and her name does not appear, maybe she camped illegally. We work very hard to keep our facilities clean, under difficult conditions with hard water. Thank goodness the pleasant tourists outweigh the unhappy ones. Indee Station staff.

Colin, Ray and all the Indee staff, we really enjoyed our stay at the station and your company, especially Happy Hour at 5.30ish each day. We also had a great drive with the caravan down the railway road to Port Hedland. No problems at all and met some very accommodating people along the way. We would love to come back one day to enjoy some more Indee hospitality

Good onya Marlyn, you are talking like a fairdinkum Aussie, and that's ridgy didge!
What about the great "happy hours" also .... fantadtic. Loved our time there.

Flies, wot flies? In spite of the 'outback' heat, I loved the opportunity to see this part of Australia! Would visit again. Of course, through the owner's sister, I was a guest at the big house and my hosts were just wonderful!!!!! Never ate so well; Betty is a marvel in the kitchen. If you had a bad experience, I am sorry. Mine will be remember very fondly even with the flies!
  15. Des  of  Taree NSW Thu January 24, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Yeah, totally agree with Alannah, Margaret from Berwick might be confused with Indiannah !!
We have stayed at Indee twice. First time for 4 months in 2007, then 6 months during 2009. Can vouch for the ammenaties being cleaned daily.
I wonder what type of "dung" Margaret was expecting. Oh, dear !

We were travelling towards Karijini NP when we decided to stop in at Indee Station for an overnight stop. We were made so welcome and loved it so much we stayed a second night and made the decision to stay on our way back again the following weekend. The i500 was on which added to our experience. Happy hour in the homestead each night where all the campers were made most welcome with nibbles provided was a highlight. We would thoroughly recommend Indee Station to any travellers who are looking for a relaxing stopover with beautifully clean amenities including two washing machines and beautiful hot showers and flushing toilets. We plan to return! A bonus was having internet service by walking up the hill which also provided a stunning panorama of the surrounding landscape.

We all loved the park. The genuine hospitality of Colin and "staff" (in Betty's absence) was unreal!
Special thanks to Alison-You're a gem! Very Fond memories of our short stay with you. Not sure that Colin has potty trained the cattle yet Margaret...

To Margaret Wright of BERWICK..I think you must have stayed somewhere other than INDEE.. if you did stay there, did you think you were back in Berwick? This is a WORKING OUTBACK C A T T L E !! station and oh yes cattle do pooh... you said "covered with dung" search as i might i could not find any area "covered with dung"...the amenities are cleaned each and every day and are odour free they even have little "sweet smelling blocks" hanging in each bowl and the floors etc are done in disinfectant DAILY...all i can add is i think it would really be bettter if you DID camp on the road...and keep your ungratefulness to your self.

Have been visiting Indee Station for many years and found the experiance to be always a pleasant one.Sign on the front gate says no power availible, as the sparky who setup the current power system its understandible 'Remote Area Power' is very expensive to setup and the solar array just couldn't support tourist power. There is both bore water
