Rafting is certainly the best way to fully appreciate the stunning beauty of the river, and several commercial operators conduct tours in the park. If walking is more to your taste, you can wander through a magnificent stand of tallowwood trees and coachwood rainforest at Norman W. Jolly Memorial Grove (wheelchair-accessible). Picnicking, swimming and car-based camping (not suitable for caravans) are available at Platypus Flat (unsealed; 4WD when wet) and The Junction (4WD only) on the Nymtaoida River.
Access 25 km north of Dorrigo on Moonpar Road (unsealed; 4WD when wet) off Tyringham Road or Moses Rock Road (unsealed) from the village of Cascade. Access to the northern part of the park is on Black Mountain Road via Grafton, Nymboida or Glenreagh (unsealed; 4WDonly). 12km of good dirt road from Tyringham-Dorrigo Rd.Low trees, no caravans, easy with camper, 2wd only if dry.Got bollards round camp area, heaps tent space, camper trailers on edge of track (could fit in 5+ campers next to bollards).Green grass, heaps shade, tables, fire pits, some wood(we took hard wood to start up), excellent eco toilets, easy access to river, great canoeing.
Bad bits:muddy road if wet, few leeches,no camper trailer sites. watch for hooligans peak times.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! You can picnic and swim at this campground. It's also a good spot to launch your canoe from. You'll need to bring drinking water.
Getting there: This campground is just off the Moonpar Forest Drive.
Facilities: picnic tables, wood barbecues, non-flush toilets Campsite is accessible by unsealed roads usually fine for 2wd vehicle in the dry, but may not be passable after rain. 425.7 km NNE of Sydney. The campsite is just off to the side of Moonpar Forest Drive on the bank of the Nymboida River. 2WD will normally get you there, but after rain you may need a 4WD. You will need to walk a short distance from your car to the campsite - no caravans or camper trailers. Good spot to enjoy the river from - you can put your canoe in the water here.
